The Greatest Blessing to the Body of Christ? The Body of Christ.

What makes the spirit of a man come alive?  If he is grieving, if he is lost or feeling abandoned, if his soul is afraid and seeking a place to call home – what brings peace to a hurting and suffering soul?

Jesus said, “I will not leave you comfortless.”What a curious statement.

Knowing we would suffer, knowing how this world and the broken things within it, war against the human spirit and soul, Jesus responded, “I am going away.  But I will not leave you without a Comfort and a Comforter.” (I paraphrase some.)

And the He left.  But His body remained on the earth.  There is a mystery to these things but Messiah’s body remained, as a beacon shining the way to salvation out in the midst of the darkness – for all the world to see.

We are told by our Lord and Savior that this Comforter is a Spirit, even the Most Holy Spirit of God.  “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit (The Holy Ghost), whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 16:26)

But a Spirit does not dwell alone, but abides in a soul and that within a body.  Or are you not the dwelling place of God?  “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (I Corinthians 6:19)

And if His Spirit is within you, are you then Christ?  It is not so, for we have One Savior and One Salvation of whom we now testify – and yet His Spirit is alive in you.  It has therefore been written, “Now are we the body of Christ” (I Corinthians 12:27) Paul explains to us that we are yet many members throughout his first letter to the Corinthian believers.

And we, fitly joined together, become a body but a body of What? Or a body of Who?  It is blaspheme, a man calling himself Christ, and yet, a mystery persists - we as a body of believers become What? Or become Who?  The Body of Christ.

Paul, by the Spirit, recognized that when the followers of Christ come together, as one, in that sweet and most precious unity the Son of Heaven begins to appear.  If one is a leg and another an arm, still another the heart and another the ribs, of whose body are we then being formed, together, as one?  We are the body of Christ.

And we alone, separated from the body, do wither and die but intimately joined one to another, the body comes alive and thrives – empowered with the Spirit of the Living God, that life-giving Spirit, that quickens, the Spirit brings dead things to life!  Take heed because the members of Christ’s body do wither and die separated and apart from their body, of saints, those precious brothers and sisters God has given to us.

Therefore, “Let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as we see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24, 25)

But many who gather, gather amiss, denying these traditions that were handed down to us by those first apostles of the Lamb, even denying the word by which we were redeemed. Remember the first impartation of the commandments of God, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”  And yet these men teach and seduce men to follow another man, without question, as if they are the Lord themselves.  (Are we not one body of many members?) And Jesus taught His disciples, many of whom were the first apostles of this New Covenant, saying, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.”

“For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.” (Luke 22:25-28)

If our Lord and Master showed to us the ministry of the kingdom of heaven, not ruling or being served but being ruled by His Father and instead serving, how ought we to live?  He even took off His clothes, making Himself lower than the lowest of servants and He washed the feet of His friends.

Has the scripture not warned us? “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 16:25)  And if the Lord wanted men free (Who the Son sets free is free indeed…), why would we bind them to serve our own will and fleshly desire?  But there is more.  Indeed, He came to give His life as a ransom for many – but for what cause? 

Has it not been written, “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.” (I Corinthians 14:26) And yet in your assemblies men are not free to share expressly, even as the Spirit gives them utterance.

Did not Paul exhort us, saying, “For the body is not one member, but many.” (I Corinthians 12:14) and yet in your assemblies one, maybe two members receive all the glory and honor of the body - even the glory and honor bestowed on Christ!?  Family, this should not be so.

You have followed after this culture for long enough.  You have followed after them but you were called to inspire them, to encourage them and to show them the ways of God!  And the blessing that God puts upon your life would be the witness of God’s glory, enough to convince them to follow us, to see the glory of God in our lives and turn and repent, returning once and for always to their Father, even with us.

But these false believers will not follow after the word, even the Word who became flesh and bought them, they deny these holy things of God and make for themselves another way, away from that first gospel we have received from God’s own Son.  And so their lives are a witness, not for the gospel but a warning to the world around them that these men found not the way of life, and have erred against the kingdom of God.

Paul warned us, even writing to Timothy, of what would come of the Church in the last days, saying, “they will have a form of godliness but deny its power.”  The Spirit and His Word, are they not the powers by which we stand!? 

You Men remain the heads of your families, to guard them and to watch over them, to keep them in this way, and model to them the kingdom of the Most High God.  You Wives are to be contrite and content to live a quiet and peaceable life, modeling to your children submission to your own husbands, even as we submit to God.  You children are to give honor and live humbly among those parents among you, for they will watch over your souls.  You Church, seek God with your whole heart, love Him before all others and remain together in that love.

You are the family of God, you who bought with a great price, given from heaven, love one another.  Fathers, love the children who are among you, show them with great patience and long-suffering the way of God.  Brothers, come together in this love, being unified by the Spirit with which our Father has given us to endure unto the end.  Mothers, teach the younger women among you what it is to be Godly, quick to serve, quick to listen, slow to wrath and filled with mercy.  Sisters, we exhort you as the weaker vessel, knowing that one day you too will be perfected and restored in Christ.

What should become of the body if the strength of men chose to falter?  What should become of the children if their fathers refuse to stand for them, keeping watch over their souls?  Women of God, you should want your men to made strong in the Spirit of Christ.  Men of God, do not cast your burdens and calling on to your women, who were not made to bear those things.  Let the household of God believe, and return to the ways in which we were taught.

And the body of Christ will come together, in strength but also in love, fitly joined one to another, equipped for every good work to glorify God and to be made His salvation on the earth, His Own Body.

There is hope in your end, Precious Saints and Believers.  We can endure.  Without His Comforter, we will be left empty, without hope, wandering and defeated.  But receiving this Word, once again, receiving His Spirit and Comfort, a New Life will rise up within us, we will cast off the cares of this fallen life and we will again, LIVE!

But a grave and sincere warning for all who do not obey the commandments of God and of His Christ, to the men who refuse to keep their households in this way and to the women who continue to war against their own design, the judgments of your own lives will be a witness against you, a warning and a display to all the world these rejected the goodness of God and the Truth given by His Spirit.

Forgive and it shall be forgiven of you, there is redemption in our God.  Hold not to the bitterness and resentments of your past, but release those things to God: the perfect judge, He who is seated on a throne of mercy.  Today is a new day, if you will receive it, He will redeem your time and restore those years stolen from you.  In your anger, do not sin.  Wrath and malice are not comely for the children of God.

If you will receive it, today is a New Day – the old things have passed away and all things are made new.  Have faith, for this too pleases God.  He will bring you to your expected end, so have hope and live by faith.  You, who are the called and chosen of God, are the body of Christ given to the hurting and lost souls of the earth – love one another, and the whole world will know that you are God’s watching your love, one to another.  This is His Church perfected, perfected in His love.

These days are evil, the signs and warnings of the end are all around us, but keep watchful eye over your hearts, for soon and very soon we will stand before the King of Glory, and be held to account.  And remember, “All the more, as you see the day approaching…” Come together in His love.
